Hello from Winnipeg, an Introduction

I'm on day three of induction in Atkins. Studied it for a few weeks to make sure I knew what I was doing.

The stats:

  • 35 years old

  • 5' 7"

  • medium frame

  • current weight 185

  • goal weight 155



I don't own a scale, so I'm going to have to go to a friends to weigh myself weekly for progress. I haven't eaten this much meat in years, it's sort of thrilling for now. I do find I am really missing 'dry crunchies', like crackers, chips. Nothing much in induction that will substitute for that, I'll just have to tough it out.

Tried the Atkins brownie bar today. Definite thumbs down, it was tasteless. However, I'm enjoying the food I make at home, I've always loved to cook. Just have to adjust for no pasta, bread crumbs, etc.

P.S. In Winnipeg I've found lots of Atkin's brand things at the Vita Health stores, and Stuporstore (Superstore).

I miss the crunchy things too. What I do, to take the place of it. Even though I didn't really like the idea at first, pork rinds. They are crunchy and will fill that void. I don't know if you like them. You can get them in different flavors and they are 0 carb. What I like to do with them is dip them in ranch dressing. Try finding the lowest carb, full fat Ranch. It's actually really good. I find that I miss crunchy stuff too, so that is what I do. That and nuts once in a while. Depends on the phase of Atkins your at.

That is my suggestion.
for me, i've been getting crunchy from fried fish (plz tell me if fried is a no-no, it seems ok from what i've read) - usually i give the skin to my dog but today i ate it for the bit of crunch it has.
[and i love love love the brownies - the atkins advantage bars that is: i've tried pralines and cream, cookies and cream and brownie flavours and the brownie's my favorite. i'm not buying any more this week though because i can't resist them once they're in the house and it seems wrong]

the dry crunchie thing bothers me too but I like losing the weight so much it makes it a little easier to deal with.

I really try to stay away from the low carb products and do it all natural, I love to cook too so I come up with creative solutions for foods I used to love that had lots of carbs, like lasagna with layers of portabello mushrooms instead of pasta hehe.

I must say, since I've made that post, it's been... yeesh, a couple of years. I haven't kept up, per se, with the Atkins diet. Though I have cut back on carbs. I'm pregnant, and the occasional tortilla chip craving overwhelms me. I've upped my vegetable content considerably, and while I'm not as slim as I'd like, I'm managable.
